For example, the reaction between diisobutene and phenol produces octylphenol, which is a basic raw material for the synthesis of chemical products such as surfactants, antioxidants, stabilizers, and resins. With the continuous development of tire and surfactant industries, the domestic demand for octylphenol is increasing, but the total domestic production of octylphenol is still less than 10,000 tons/year, and the production capacity and output cannot meet the domestic demand. It can be seen that the role of diisobutene is still far from being brought into play.

Of course, it is not that easy to produce diisobutene in large quantities. At present, the mainstream production technology in China is to use mixed C4 as raw material. Because the composition of the raw material is too mixed, it will produce a lot of by-products. In the reactor, diisobutene is surrounded by dimethylhexene, all kinds of trimethylpentene, as far as the eye can see, are all by-products of diisobutene, and the boiling point is similar, it is difficult to separate. It is difficult to obtain high purity and high yield, which is a pain point of the current production process.
